What is Hemp Extract?
Hemp extracts, rich in phyto-cannabinoids, are an excellent way to consume.
Often called oil, tincture, drops, or concentrate, hemp extracts are created by extracting elements of the hemp plant into a honey-like concentrate, and then infusing that concentrate into a base oil or glycerin.
Hemp extracts are normally taken by shaking the bottle well, putting drops under the tongue, holding for 45-60 seconds, and then swallowing.
Onset with this method is 15-30 minutes with effects lasting 3-5 hours.
How Best to Consume Hemp Extract
Hemp extracts are most effective when taken with food to boost absorption, but they can be taken on an empty stomach.
Low & slow is the way to start with hemp extract. For new consumers, we often recommend beginning with as little as 3-6mg cannabinoids for 4-5 days, increasing by 3-6mg every 2-3 days until desired wellness is achieved.
To determine the concentration of cannabinoids in a drop, divide the mg/ml by 20. As an example, our Ease 1,500 Extra Strength Concentrate has 50mg/ml, with means it has 2.5mg/drop.
Taking as little as possible is the goal, as taking too much may bring on unpleasant side effects such as lightheadedness, dry mouth, upset stomach, diarrhea, and sleepiness. Less is more when it comes to any hemp product that you’re ingesting.
Be patient and mindful as you learn how much, when, and how frequently to consume so you get the most out of your hemp extract.
And as always, remember that this site is for informational purposes, and cannot replace the advice of a medical professional. Before you add hemp extract to your diet, consult with your doctor.
