Meet Amanda Nisula – Fitness & Lifestyle Coach and Registered Nurse
Hi all! My name is Amanda Nisula. I am a mom, wife, daughter, friend, certificated CrossFit Coach, Girls Gone Strong Pre-& Postnatal Coaching certified coach, precision nutrition coach, and a registered nurse.
I have two beautiful daughters, a three year old named Cecilia and a 10 month old named Camilla. They make my world go round and have taught me more about myself and life than I could ever imagine. But pregnancy and motherhood isn’t easy.
Pregnancy is Beautiful & Hard
Pregnancy is beautiful and HARD, becoming a mom is beautiful and even HARDER…. But no one ever talks about postpartum… now that is the HARDEST challenge.
After 9 months, you find yourself with a new baby (with no “how to” manual), sleep deprived, and learning a new routine with a body that is healing from pregnancy & birth. Nothing easy about that.
To top it off, women’s postpartum healing is extremely overlooked.
During pregnancy, we have multiple doctor appointments.
Once the baby is born, they begin to have weekly/monthly check ups.
Once a woman gives birth, there is ONE 6 week checkup. This is when we hear those important six words, “you can return to normal activities.”
Normal activities. So as an athlete, these words meant I could go back to working out just like I was before I got pregnant or even before I gave birth, right? Not so much…
The Women’s Body During Pregnancy
There are so many changes the women’s body encounters through pregnancy and birth that women are simply just not educated on, for example pelvic floor dysfunction, or diastasis recti.
I have a memory that always sticks with me: the first time I ran after being cleared to work out. It felt like my uterus was going to fall out of my body – yes ladies, this is a true statement.
I also remember feeling uneducated and scared. I felt like I was doing more harm than good to my body, even though I was just doing my normal activities.
That was the number one reason I went for my pre and postnatal coaching certificate. I knew I would be educated to help myself as well as other women.
Ladies: know you’re not alone, and that there are women out there that feel the same as you, and you can find support.
Advice to Women in Postpartum Stage
My advice to any woman in the postpartum stage: don’t rush yourself. Exercise will always be there, and postpartum is forever. Build a strong foundation and the house will never fall.
Most importantly, know that support is there for you, and
there are coaches specifically trained to support you through what can be a
confusing time.
